Study Population

Inclusion Criteria

• Mild-to-moderate hypertension (seated diastolic blood pressure (DBP) 95–109 mmHg)
• 24-hour mean ambulatory DBP ≥85 mmHg
• Type 2 diabetes
• BMI ≥ 27 kg/m² (overweight and obese)

Exclusion Criteria

• Pre-menopausal women not using contraceptives
• Night-shift workers
• Systolic blood pressure (SBP/DBP >180/>110 mmHg
• Known or suspected secondary hypertension
• Hepatic and/or renal dysfunction
• Congestive heart failure (New York Heart Association Class III–IV)
• Active coronary artery disease
• Impaired fasting glucose
