ARBs-FDC
Blood pressure control with ARBs in Fixed Dose Combinations: telmisartan versus losartan
ARBs-FDC demonstrated the potent blood-pressure lowering effects of MICARDIS® in combination with hydrochlorothiazide
Why conduct this study?
Evidence shows that most patients need more than one drug to achieve adequate blood pressure control. Recognizing this, current guidelines acknowledge that fixed-dose combinations could be used as first-line therapy to achieve treatment goals for arterial hypertension.1
It is also important to sustain antihypertensive efficacy throughout the full 24-hour time period, especially to attenuate the early morning blood pressure rise – a time period when the risk of cardiovascular (CV) risk is highest. ARBs in fixed-dose combinations offer a synergistic, effective and well-tolerated antihypertensive treatment option – providing 24-hour efficacy and attenuation of the early morning rise in blood pressure, when the risk for CV events is highest.
The aim of the ARBs-FDC study was to compare the effects of high- and low-dose MICARDIS® in a fixed-dose combination with a thiazide-type diuretic and losartan plus a thiazide-type diuretic on early morning blood pressure levels.2
