TRANSCEND is part of The ONTARGET^® Trial Programme: The largest cardiovascular outcome trial ever undertaken with an angiotensin II receptor blocker Why conduct this study?

A significant number of high-risk patients are intolerant of chronic ACE inhibition. In this patient group, cardiovascular outcome may be improved by the use of an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB).

The aim of the TRANSCEND^® study was to compare the effects of MICARDIS^® versus placebo in patients intolerant of ACE inhibitors but at high risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, cardiovascular death or hospitalization for congestive heart failure (CHF).

TRANSCEND^® is a study within the ONTARGET^® Trial Programme, which also includes the parallel ONTARGET^® study.

The results from TRANSCEND^® are expected to be complementary to the ONTARGET^® study.
