The ONTARGET® Trial Programme Sub-Studies
The ONTARGET® Trial Programme includes several sub-studies.

- Arterial stiffness: Evaluation of arterial stiffness in patients at high cardiovascular risk.
- Blood markers of disease: The identification of new biochemical risk factors and genetic markers for cardiovascular-related disease.
- Ambulatory blood pressure measurement: Evaluation of the effects of telmisartan and ramipril on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality after adjustment for 24-hour blood pressure values.
- Left ventricular hypertrophy: Changes in cardiac structure and function will be assessed by nuclear magnetic resonance imaging.
- Glucose tolerance: Assess delays of the onset of diabetes in patients at high cardiovascular risk. New-onset diabetes is the strongest secondary endpoint in TRANSCEND®.
- Erectile dysfunction: Evaluation of the incidence and time course of erectile dysfunction during drug treatment in patients with cardiovascular disease.
- Health economics: To determine the resource use and direct medical costs for each treatment group associated with clinical events requiring hospitalization during the follow-up period. To evaluate the impact of each treatment on patient benefits (utility assessment) using the EQ-5D, a preference-based patient utility measurement.
